Álex Baena, an Atlético Madrid player, directed sharp words at Real Madrid coach José Mourinho this past weekend, labelling the Portuguese tactician a ‘bad loser’.

Mourinho has been a frequent subject of Spanish media discussion lately. This follows his actions after Real Madrid’s derby loss to Atlético.

Unconvinced by the refereeing during the 90 minutes at the Metropolitano, Mourinho openly expressed his dissatisfaction post-match. The 63-year-old presented printed images of two challenges he believed warranted red cards, and criticized the referee, Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias, and his officials.

However, a forward for Atlético Madrid disagrees with Mourinho’s stance, finding his frustrations misplaced.

Speaking to reporters after scoring in Spain's Nations League win against England on Saturday, Álex Baena countered Real's coach, stating:

“Mourinho’s post-match press conference? He’s complaining because he lost. When Real Madrid lose, he always looks for excuses instead of focusing on himself.

“Showing printed papers was the behavior of a bad loser.”
