Barcelona, the reigning La Liga champions, have officially announced the permanent acquisition of Josué Caicedo from LDU Quito. This move comes after a prolonged period of speculation linking the two parties.

For those unfamiliar with the name, Caicedo is an 18-year-old defender, primarily playing as a left-back. The young talent spent his formative years developing within the ranks of LDU Quito in his native Ecuador.

Despite his young age, Caicedo had already established himself in the first team at his former club, attracting the attention of several European clubs, most notably Barcelona.

The Catalan club moved to the forefront of the race to secure the young full-back, who has been widely praised for his all-around abilities on the pitch.

As indicated previously, after extensive behind-the-scenes negotiations and legal work, Barcelona has finally secured their target on Wednesday.

A statement released by the club via their website and social media platforms read:

"Josué Caicedo is experiencing his first days as a Barça player. After training for the first time with Barça Atlètic on Tuesday, the Ecuadorian defender completed his morning training session on Wednesday and subsequently formalized his incorporation by signing his contract at the offices of the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper."
