Gavi Defends Cristiano Ronaldo Amidst Criticism
Barcelona's emerging talent, Gavi, has publicly expressed his support for Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese forward currently playing for Al-Nassr. This comes at a time when the 41-year-old player has been facing significant backlash in recent weeks.
Despite Portugal securing their place in the World Cup knockout stages, Ronaldo has started in all four of their matches. However, a prevailing sentiment suggests that coach Roberto Martínez's team might benefit more from relying on the abilities of other players, with Ronaldo coming on as a substitute.
The overall quality of Ronaldo's performances has been under scrutiny for some time. When he isn't scoring, he appears to struggle to influence the general flow of the game.
Both the media and fans have been unsparing in their criticism of the former Real Madrid star, while players like Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé continue to receive consistent praise.
Speaking to the press before Spain's upcoming match against Portugal, Gavi was asked about Ronaldo.
The Barcelona midfielder took the opportunity to defend the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, stating:
"I've never witnessed criticism directed at Cristiano from his teammates; it's only from external sources. His teammates hold him in very high regard. He is among the greatest players ever and can make a decisive impact at any moment."
