Lionel Messi Called Up by Argentina for International Farewell Match
Lionel Messi has been included in the latest Argentine national team squad for the upcoming international break. This call-up aims to give the veteran forward a proper sendoff after concluding his international career with the Albiceleste.
Messi recently announced his retirement from international football. This decision followed a difficult summer, marked by a World Cup final defeat and the passing of his father. The 39-year-old publicly stated his intention to step down from duty with Argentina.
Despite this, coach Lionel Scaloni has decided to give Messi one final call-up for his country.
The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner is part of Argentina's roster for the September international break.
"Lionel Messi will have a farewell with the Argentina National Team on October 6. He’s gonna say goodbye at Argentina’s friendly against Benin at the Monumental, Buenos Aires," reported journalist Fabrizio Romano.
