Man City Gives Barcelona a Reality Check on Rodri
La Liga champions Barcelona have received a stark reality check from their Premier League counterparts at Manchester City. This comes after confirmation that Barcelona's initial offer for the services of standout Sky Blue midfielder Rodri was rejected.
The name Rodri has dominated headlines in Catalunya's capital in the past 24 hours. Following reports that Barcelona had entered the race for the 30-year-old's signature, Rodri himself expressed a desire to join Hansi Flick's team over fellow suitor Real Madrid. Consequently, Deco and the Camp Nou management submitted an opening proposal for the World Cup-winning captain on Friday. However, as mentioned, this bid was promptly dismissed without serious consideration.
According to renowned market insider David Ornstein of The Athletic, Barcelona submitted an offer of approximately €45 million plus add-ons for Rodri. Manchester City, however, considers this valuation to be far below the figure required to even initiate negotiations for a potential sale.
Those in power at the Etihad Stadium are reportedly demanding in the region of €80 million. Discussions between the clubs are expected to continue in the coming days.
